The National Alumni Board is proud to award two different types of scholarships to students. Read below for details pertaining to each scholarship.


Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship


The University of Dallas National Alumni Board established the Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship in 1994 to support current students who have had a parent, grandparent, or sibling graduate from the University. Students from all colleges are eligible to apply but a student may only receive the award one time during his or her academic experience at UD. Up to three awards will be given annually of up to $3,000 each. All applications and application materials for the academic year 2014-15 must be received by June 1.

Guidelines

  1. Scholarships are for tuition only.
  2. An applicant’s academic status will be considered, but will not be the single determining factor. 
  3. An applicant’s need for financial assistance will be considered, but will not be the single determining factor.
  4. Applicants must be at least half-time students.
  5. Applicants must have a parent, grandparent, or sibling who is an alumnus/a in good standing of the University of Dallas.
  6. Recipients of the Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship must attend one of the three National Alumni Board meetings in the year in which they receive the award. Recipients will also agree to have their biography and/or essay published in University publications.

Application Process

  1. Students must apply online at alumni.udallas.edu/legacy.
  2. Applicants must also submit an essay describing the influence of UD alumni on their lives.
  3. All materials for the academic year 2014-15 must be received by June 1.

Selection Process

  1. The NAB Recruitment & Scholarship Committee will receive applications and essays from the Office of Advancement and Financial Aid. 
  2. NAB members who are related to applicants shall recuse themselves from decisions concerning those applicants. 
  3. The Director of Financial Aid will screen all applicants to ensure that they meet the basic qualifications. 
  4. The committee will determine the finalists and present those names in rank order to the Director of Financial Aid. 
  5. The Director of Financial Aid will apply the awards based on the rank order of the committee and the impact of the award on each finalist’s aid package. Should a finalist decline the award or not attend during the award year, another finalist may be given the award.

Rome Scholarship

The University of Dallas National Alumni Board established the Alumni Association Rome Scholarship in 1994 to support current students at the University who wish to participate in the Rome program. Sophomores, juniors and seniors participating in the Rome program are eligible to apply. The recipient of the Rome scholarship need not be from a legacy family. Up to three awards will be given annually of up to $1,000 each. Fall Rome scholarship applications are due by March 25 and all application materials must be received by March 31. All Spring Rome scholarship applications and application materials are due by November 1. 

Guidelines

  1. Scholarships are for tuition only.
  2. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 to be eligible. 
  3. An applicant’s need for financial assistance will be considered, but will not be the single determining factor.
  4. Applicants must be full-time students.
  5. In addition to their academic record, applicants will be considered based on their campus involvement and commitment to community service.
  6. Recipients of the Alumni Association Rome Scholarship must attend one of the three National Alumni Board meetings each year. Recipients will also be required to participate in a stewardship project involving sharing a photo of themselves during the Rome semester and responding to questions about the experience that can be shared with donors.

  2. Applicants must also submit a letter of recommendation from a familiar teacher or counselor that directly and clearly addresses your leadership record and potential.
  3. All materials must be received by the Advancement Office by March 31 for fall semester or November 1 for spring semester.

Selection Process

  1. The NAB Recruitment & Scholarship Committee will form a “Reading” committee from within and outside its ranks. Faculty, staff and at large alumni are eligible. The Reading Committee shall not exceed 5 members.
  2. The Director of Financial Aid will screen all applicants to ensure that they meet the basic qualifications. NAB members and/or Reading committee members who are related to applicants shall recuse themselves from decisions concerning those applicants.
  3. The “Reading" committee will determine the finalists and present those names in rank order to the Director of Financial Aid. 
  4. The Director of Financial Aid will apply the awards based on the rank order of the Reading committee and the impact of the award on each finalist’s aid package. Should a finalist decline the award or ultimately not participate in the Rome program, another finalist may be given the award.
