Rome Again: Returning to the Eternal City
Alumni of the University of Dallas’ renowned Rome Program are no strangers to what has become known as “Rome-sickness.” Desperate wishes to be back among the ancient ruins and cobblestone streets of the Rome, a place that manages to feel like home after merely four months, are wishes we understand well. As alumni, we all leave a part of ourselves in this historic place, a place that changed us and brought us to a new understanding of who we are.
ERICA SWEGLER, B.S., '79
Last month in San Antonio, Erica W. Swegler, MD, FAAFP, B.S., ‘79, was elected to the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Family Physicians. Swegler has made the most of her career after she graduated magna cum laude from UD with her degree in biochemistry. Swegler has also received many individual awards including being recognized for her dedication to patients and family medicine in 2006, when she was named the Texas Family Physician of the Year.
ALEJANDRA, BA '13 & MELISSA HERNANDEZ, BA '16
Alejandra Hernandez is a young Latina with roots in the central valley of Oaxaca, Mexico. Currently, she serves as the lead project coordinator in the Environmental Health Department at 16th Street Community Health Centers in Milwaukee. Her sister Melissa Hernandez graduated from the University of Dallas in 2016 with a degree in Politics and a concentration in Spanish.
